A bamboo chasen (matcha whisk) is the one tool that makes the biggest difference to your matcha. Its fine prongs aerate the tea into a smooth, creamy foam that a spoon or electric frother can't match.

We stock everyday purple-bamboo whisks with 64, 80 and 100 prongs, plus handmade chasen by Nakata Kisen from Takayama in Nara, Japan's traditional home of tea whisk making, made for schools such as Mushakōji Senke and Sōhen-ryū. More prongs give a finer foam for usucha; sturdier whisks with fewer prongs are easier for beginners and koicha.
